Police believe a WOAH vest could have helped in a deadly incident Monday night. A 52-year-old woman crossing the street, outside of a crosswalk, was hit by three cars and died at the scene. Investigators are still hoping to find a woman who has been missing in Pittsylvania County for more than eight years. Multiple agencies have been searching for Soledad Najera since she was reported missing in March of 2016. Najera came to the area from Durango, Mexico and attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Danville. Investigators are currently searching for evidence at a home in Danville after executing a search warrant on Monday. Anyone with information about Najera is being asked to call the Pittsylvania County Sheriff's Office.
A new poll says public awareness of the 988 suicide prevention hotline is still low. The poll by Annenberg Public Policy Center found only 15-percent of respondents could correctly name the number for the suicide prevention hotline. The good news, however, is that's up by four points since August of 2023.
