Over one-thousand people are facing charges in a large drug operation.Preview: There's now a name for Chesterfield County's next school. The school board yesterday selected the name Deep Creek Middle School. Interim Superintendent John Murray says Deep Creek runs near the school on Westerleigh Parkway, and it's one of the streams that flows into Swift Creek Reservoir. The school will open next August. It sits on what used to be Otterdale Farm, and some wanted that incorporated into the school's name. District officials, though, objected to that because slaves once worked on the farm.
The Prince William County School Board is set to vote on a formal cellphone policy on December 4, following a first reading scheduled for November 19. Officials say the final policy will align with state recommendations and emphasize safe and focused learning environments.
The VDOT is reminding drivers that toll rates are going up in Norfolk's downtown and midtown tunnels. Those who have an EZ-Pass will see costs go up 17-cents during peak hours and eight-cents otherwise at the beginning of the year. Those without a pass will see an increase of around a quarter. The funds will help repay debt on a multi-billion-dollar improvement project.
