Richmond Public School officials celebrated construction progress on two schools, Fox Elementary and Richmond High School for the Arts.Preview: A vote on increasing the meals tax in a northern Virginia community has been delayed for another month. Members of the Vienna Town Council decided yesterday that they need more information before they can vote on raising the meals tax from three to four percent. The increase would fund the planning and construction of a new aquatic and fitness center on land the town owns. The council will now vote on the proposal on January 27th.
A new grant aims to help some Virginia students who are also parents. New River Community College has received a $10,000 donation from the Truist Charitable Fund to support its College Attainment for Parent Students, or CAPS, program. The funding will provide learning materials for students' children and create more family-friendly campuses. The CAPS program is being piloted at five of Virginia's community colleges
Volunteers will be placing wreaths on the graves at Arlington National Cemetery this weekend. This Saturday's event is part of Wreaths Across America, which lays wreaths on thousands of military graves nationwide during the holiday season. The organization already has about 170-thousand wreaths ready to be placed at Arlington National and is still raising money in hopes of buying 90-thousand more. Wreath placement will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday.
