A Virginia-based grocery chain has agreed to pay the federal government over eight-million dollars to settle claims related to the opioid crisis.

Firefighters are answering the call in Chesterfield County so their colleagues can pay respects to one of their own. Former Chesterfield Fire and EMS Lieutenant Robert Talbott died last week from cancer. He was 55.. His funeral is set for tomorrow in Danville. In order to allow Chesterfield Fire and EMS personnel to attend, firefighters in Richmond, Henrico County and six other departments will fill in and staff their stations. Chesterfield Fire and EMS officials say they're thankful for all their brothers and sisters from neighboring departments for assisting during this difficult time.  
 
 
The Departments of the Interior and Defense are investing $15 million to preserve green spaces and enhance recreation opportunities around military installations, including a park in Yorktown. The investment is part of the Readiness and Recreation Initiative, funded by the Land and Water Conservation Fund and the Department of Defense’s REPI Program. The initiative aims to increase recreational opportunities, sustain wildlife habitats, and build climate resilience in local communities.  
 
 
A new statue of civil rights activist Barbara Rose Johns, who led a student strike against segregation in 1951, will be unveiled in the U.S. Capitol's National Statuary Hall in 2025. Once the statue is finished and approved, it will be placed on a granite pedestal in Statuary Hall for public viewing. The unveiling ceremony for the statue has not yet been scheduled.
