A Black veteran has been honored by Virginia lawmakers as he celebrates his 100th birthday. Retired Master Gunnery Sergeant Carroll Braxton was welcomed to the House of Delegates on Tuesday. Braxton joined the Marines in 1943, shortly after President Roosevelt signed an executive order allowing people of all races to join the military. He served in the Marines for 33 years, fighting in both World War Two and the Korean War. The House honored the Manassas native with a resolution commending his service, giving him a standing ovation.
