Newport News' top prosecutor says he is appalled by the findings of a special grand jury probe into the shooting of an elementary school teacher.Preview: Workforce training in Danville is attracting students from all over the world. Rose Lopez, a veteran from North Carolina, moved to Danville to participate in the U.S. Navy's Accelerated Training in Defense Manufacturing program. The program hopes to address the country's shipbuilding workforce shortage, but the city's housing shortage makes hosting students a challenge. The Cardinal News reports that while multiple housing projects are underway, Danville has a shortage of about 600 homes - without the influx of students. The campus does not currently offer lodging, although IALR President Telly Tucker says that is something that may happen in the future. Housing and tuition are entirely free to students, since the program is funded by the U.S. Navy.
The House is considering a bill to reauthorize a controversial surveillance law. The program allows intelligence agencies to surveil non-U.S. citizens abroad but sometimes Americans get caught up in the net. The House is voting on the final bill and several amendments, including one that would add a warrant requirement before the government could review information collected on Americans.
