Franklin County is considering property and meal tax increases, with residents voicing their concerns at a public hearing. The proposed increases include a 6% tax on restaurant meals and a two-cent increase on property taxes. WSLS reports the county relies on local taxes for 47% of its budget and aims to maintain financial stability in the face of inflation. However, some residents fear the tax hikes may disproportionately affect those on fixed incomes. The board will vote on the proposed taxes at their upcoming meeting.

Arlington County residents may be forking over big money for crowd control in Clarendon. The popular nightspot has been patrolled on weekends by police in a longstanding detail due to all the fights that break out, but now the county manager is including an extra 321-thousand-bucks in his budget proposal to cover the overtime costs of the program. The county board is scheduled to vote on the spending plan this week.
