A federal appeals court has ordered a new sentencing for a former Rocky Mount police officer convicted for his role in the 2021 U.S. Capitol riot. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia ruled yesterday that a mistake was made during the sentencing of Thomas "T.J." Robertson. The appeals court ruled that the judge "misapplied" federal sentencing guidelines to give Robertson a substantially increased sentence. Robertson was sentenced to more than seven years in prison following his conviction in 2022.

A plan is in place to make Henrico County safer for pedestrians. Fairfield District Supervisor Reverend Roscoe Cooper says the county is working with VDOT on some improvements in the Brook Road area. A woman died Sunday after she was hit by a car while trying to cross the street. 12 On Your Side reports VDOT will install five-foot sidewalks on one side of the road. Also, additions will make it more obvious where it's safer for pedestrians to cross.  
 
 
A new study shows that feeding peanuts to children could reduce the risk of developing an allergy. The study published in the New England Journal of Medicine shows a strong link between exposure to peanuts before the age of five and a lower risk of peanut allergies. The tolerance developed from exposure to peanuts lasts even in older children.
