A woman is dead after a carjacking in Loudoun County. Deputies were called to a location in Sterling after the carjacking was reported yesterday afternoon. Fifty-four-year-old Melody Waldecker was reportedly struck by the stolen vehicle as it was leaving the scene. The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office says a suspect has been arrested in connection and that there is no ongoing threat to the public.
Police in South Carolina have arrested a suspect in the shooting death of a teen from southwest Virginia.Preview: Boar's Head Provisions has issued a recall for several products that may be contaminated with listeria. The Jarrett, Virginia-based company recalled more than 200-thousand pounds of deli meat late last week. The USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service began an investigation after nearly three dozen people became ill in 13 states. The recall includes all of the company's Strassburger brand liverwurst with the "Made in Virginia" label as well as ham, bologna, bacon and salami produced on the same line.
Two rising seniors at a Virginia school are opposing the decision to rebrand schools with Confederate names, which were removed in 2020. The students, who say they representing a small population of Black students, are part of a lawsuit against the school board for allegedly reaffirming discrimination. The lawsuit seeks to remove Confederate names and prevent future naming involving Confederate leaders. The students and the Virginia NAACP view the Confederacy as defenders of slavery, while some Virginians see it as a symbol of Southern heritage. The court is considering a hearing between September and early October.
