A meeting today could help resolve a dispute between a business owner and the city of Richmond. Andrew Clarke is co-owner of 821 Cafe on West Cary Street. About six months ago, he got a letter from the city's finance department saying he owed almost 200-thousand dollars in meals taxes over the last three years. The city was willing to settle with him for 25-thousand dollars, but he refused. Instead, Clarke says he met with finance officials, and they found they mistakenly applied one of his tax payments from seven years ago to the wrong business. That meant Clarke's payment was considered late, and the late fees have been piling up ever since without his knowledge. He tells CBS 6 he's meeting today with the finance department to discuss a new offer.
