Republican Lieutenant Governor Winsome Earle-Sears has filed paperwork to run for Virginia governor in 2025, becoming the first Republican to do so. She is the first woman of color and the second woman to hold statewide office in Virginia. Earle-Sears, a former state delegate and Marine, is exploring a run for governor after presiding over the Virginia Senate as lieutenant governor. The Democratic nomination for the 2025 election is currently held by U.S. Rep. Abigail Spanberger, with no other Democrats vying for the position.  
 
 
Virginia's U.S. Senate candidates visit southwest Virginia ahead of the start of early voting. Tim Kaine and Hung Cao, were actively campaigning, with Kaine attending a luncheon in Lynchburg and Cao hosting a law enforcement roundtable in Montgomery County. WFXR reports both candidates emphasized the importance of early voting, which begins on September 20, and engaged with voters to discuss key issues such as illegal immigration and mental health support. The candidates are set to debate on October 2 at Norfolk State University.

The Arts Community Celebration in Clifton Forge will take place on September 20 and 21, featuring a variety of arts and crafts exhibits, demonstrations, and performances. The event will showcase the work of local artists and include activities such as music, dance, storytelling, and hands-on demos. The Virginian Review reports that renowned musician Sam Bush will perform at The Historic Masonic Theatre on September 20 as part of the celebration.
