Appalachian Power will receive $5 million dollars in federal funding to upgrade its Claytor hydroelectric plant on the New River in Pulaski County. The utility plans to replace original equipment on two turbine-generator units to enhance reliability and improve service for customers. The Cardinal News reports hydropower accounts for 27% of renewable energy in the U.S.  
 
 
Richmond residents are invited to share their vision for city parks. The Parks and Rec department is holding nine meetings this week for its comprehensive parks and rec plan. The plan is called Richmond INSPIRE, and the city says it aims to develop a world-class park and rec system that's equitable, resilient and cherished by all residents. Three meetings a day are set for tomorrow, Wednesday and Thursday. You can find a meeting near you at RVA.gov.

A Congressional report on the 2021 U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan finds that hesitation from the Biden administration put Americans at risk. The 354-page report was released Sunday by the House Foreign Affairs Committee after a three-year investigation. Foreign Affairs Chair Michael McCaul of Texas said the administration had the opportunity to plan for the "inevitable collapse" of the Afghan government and carry out an orderly evacuation - but failed to do so. A terror attack during the chaotic withdrawal led to the deaths of 13 U.S. service members and numerous civilians. The White House called the report partisan and based on cherry-picked facts.
