Smoke is still visible at the Williamsburg Premium Outlets as an underground fire continues to smolder. The James City County Fire Department says they believe high-density plastic is what continues to burn. The fire was first reported at around 9 a.m. Saturday in a parking lot at the mall. The lot is built on top of an underground stormwater chamber housing modular plastic crates.
Multiple Agencies are all monitoring the air quality around the mall. A spokesperson with the EPA says there are no levels of concern at the moment, but they will continue to monitor.
