A new state report has found major issues with the Virginia Department of Health. Virginia's Joint Legislative Audit and Review Commission says the VDH struggles to pay vendors, other state agencies, and employees on time. The report has also found that mismanagement of finances and staffing shortages have also resulted in the agency failing to perform timely inspections at hospitals, home care organizations, and nursing homes. Governor Youngkin's office released a statement on the issue saying the administration inherited significant and longstanding financial and operational issues with the VDH and are taking steps to address those challenges.

The memorial will honor D'Sean Perry, Devin Chandler and Lavel Davis, Jr. All three student athletes were killed November 13th, 2022 after returning to campus from a field trip to Washington, D.C. Another student, Christopher Darnell Jones Jr. accused of opening fire that night and killed the three while injuring two others. Jones is facing a total of ten charges, including aggravated murder. His trial is expected to start January 22nd, 2025.
