With less than a week to go, Virginians are running out of time to get their REAL IDs. The May 7th set for the deadline for the Real I.D. requirement. DMV wait times have been increasing nationwide, including at the Roanoke Valley DMV. To obtain a Real I.D., individuals need to provide proof of identity, Virginia residency, legal presence, and their social security number. WAVY reports that the cost for a Real I.D. is $10, in addition to the cost of a new I.D. If unable to obtain a Real I.D. before the deadline, alternative federally accepted documents like a U.S. Passport can be used for domestic air travel or access to federal facilities.
